Start with a calm base
A neutral abaya in mocha, sand, grey or black is the most useful piece a student can own. It works with almost every hijab colour, it hides the dust of a long commute, and nobody notices when you wear it twice in one week.
Monday to Friday
Monday: keep it simple, with a hijab one shade darker than the abaya. Tuesday: add a cardigan or a light open layer for cold, air-conditioned classrooms. Wednesday: switch to a patterned hijab and let it be the only detail. Thursday: a khimar for a long day of labs or prayers between classes, because it goes on in seconds. Friday: a lighter hijab colour and your good shoes, for whatever comes after class.
The small things that do the work
A crossbody bag keeps your hands free and stops the abaya being pulled down at one shoulder. Flat, closed shoes are easier on long walks between buildings. A spare pin and a small hand towel in your bag solve most bad days.
Care between wears
Hang the abaya up as soon as you get home rather than folding it, so the fabric can air out and the creases drop. Spot clean small marks the same day, and follow the care line on the piece itself for washing.
